Vesicouretic reflux
Backflow of urine from the bladder into the ureter (tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder). Vesicouretic reflux causes recurrent urinary infection in children that usually results in acute pyelonephritis and scarring of the kidneys. The condition, which is caused by a faulty valve mechanism, is diagnosed using voiding cystourethroraphy. Antibiotic drugs can be given to prevent infection, but corrective surgery may ultimately be necessary.
