Irritation of the vulva (the external part of the female genitalia), known medically as pruritus vulvae. Vulval itching can be caused by localised conditions, including infections (such as candidiasis), infestations (such as with pubic lice), or abnormal changes in the vulval skin (due to, for example, to leukoplakia or cancer). It can also be caused by any condition leading to generalised itching or by skin conditions, such as psoriasis or dermatitis. Itching can also result from an allergy to chemicals in hygiene products or spermicidal. Treatment of vulval itching is reliant on the cause of the problem.
