Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome
A serious and potentially deadly condition, caused by infection of the bloodstream. It is marked by bleeding into the skin, low blood pressure and shock. If left untreated, coma and death follow within just hours. It is caused by bacteria of the meningococcus group and is often associated with meningitis, affecting the membranes which cover the brain and spinal cord.
