An undamaging condition in which the blood levels of carotene, an orange pigment in certain vegetables, are extremely high as a result of disproportionate intake of these foods. Carotenaemia can cause temporary yellowing of the skin, especially on the soles and palms. Unlike jaundice, carotenamia won’t cause yellowing of the whites of the eyes.
