The loss, in a male of normal male secondary sexual characteristics. This includes testicular atrophy (wasting away of the testes), reduced facial hair and shrinkage of the prostate gland. Demasculinization can arise in a variety of conditions in which the testes are diseased or damaged. It can also result from disorders such as kidney failure and cirrhosis, which inhibit with the processing on the body of the female sex hormone oestrogen.
