Dercum’s disease

Also known as adiposis dolorosa, a disorder characterised by accumulation of localised, symmetrical fat deposits underneath the skin, mostly on the thighs and forearms. The swellings create discomfort and be uncomfortable for the affected person. Other symptoms include headaches and muscle weakness. The disease can cause death from heart failure. Decrum’s disease largely affects middle aged women and is thought to be an autosomal dominant genetic disorder.
