Haematocolpos
The build up of menstrual blood in the vagina caused by blockage at the vaginal opening. This unusual condition arises either when the hymen (the membrane around the vaginal opening) lacks the perforation that would usually allow the blood to escape from the body or as a result of developmental abnormalities of the vagina. Haematocolpos needs surgical treatment to drain the blood, and if needed to reconstruct the vagina.
