Mongolian blue spot

A black-blue pigmented spot found on the buttocks and lower back at birth. These spots are a form of naevus, caused by a concentration of melanocytes (cells that produce pigment). Mongolian blue spots are frequently found in Asian or black children. They generally disappear by the ages of three to four.
