Nasal obstruction

Blockage of the nasal passage on both or only one side of the nose, which affects the breathing. The most frequent cause is inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the passage. Other causes are deviation of the nasal septum; a haematoma (a collection of clotted blood), which is generally caused by injury: nasal polyps: and hardly ever, a cancerous tumour. In young children, enlargement of the adenoids is a widespread cause of nasal obstruction.
