Papillon-Lefevre syndrome

An unusual genetic disorder that affects the gums and skin. Papillon-Lefevre syndrome leads to areas of cracked, thickened skin. In addition to this is makes the gums susceptible to infection from very early on in life. Extreme gum disease causes the primary (milk) teeth to be lost prematurely, and can cause all the adult teeth to be lost by the age of 20.
