Petit mal

A type of generalised seizure that arises in epilepsy.  Petit mal attacks affect children and adolescents but hardly ever continues into adulthood.  Attacks can take place a number of times a day, and they can sometimes last as long as 30 seconds each.  The signs include a momentary loss of awareness, sometimes with dropping eyelids.  Treatment for petit mal attacks is with an anticonvulsant drug.
