Taste, loss of

Loss of the sense of taste, often as a result of loss of the sense of smell.  The most frequent cause is inflammation of the nasal passages.  Other causes include any condition that causes a dry mouth; damage to the taste buds from stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth); natural degeneration of the taste buds with age; or damage to nerves that carry taste sensation.
