Eucalyptus

The eucalyptus is an evergreen tree that is native to Australia and Tasmania but it can also be found in the UK. In its first five years it has sessile and oblong leaves and they grow opposite to each other while the mature ones are petioled , alternate and elongated. The flowers are white and solitary.

Properties and Use

Eucalyptus is well-known for its expectorant and stimulant properties and it is widely used for respiratory problems. It is also an antiseptic and can be used for skin problems and to prevent infections.

European Centaury

Description

This is an annual or biennial plant that grows on moist soils. The leaves at the base of the stem form a rosette and those on the stem are opposite, sessile and ovate-oblong. The flowers grow in  cymes and they are red in colour.

Properties and Use

This plant can be used for many and diverse health problems including anaemia, constipation, colic or heartburn. Externally, it can be used for removing skin blemishes.
