Anise

Anise is a plant that grows annually and is wild but it is also widely cultivated. The leaves have different aspects starting with the lower ones that are round-cordate, continuing with the middle ones that are pinnate while those at the top are incised into narrow lobes. The flowers form compound umbels.

Properties and Use

It can be used for a variety of purposes such as stimulant, antispasmodic, carminative, digestive, expectorant. It eases digestion, alleviating cramps and relieving flatulence. It can be helpful for nursing mothers, increasing milk production. It can be used to promote menstruation. Along with other plants (caraway and fennel) it can be used as an intestinal cleanser.

Also known as: Aniseed ( because the seeds make the medicinal part)
